Abia State Commissioner of Police, Janet Agbeda has warned criminals who perpetrates crimes within the State to desist or face the full weight of the Law.
The commissioner gave the advice while addressing Journalists during a parade of some criminal suspects at the State Police Command who were responsible for bank robberies and attacking of Bullion Vans, warned armed robbers that Abia State Police Command under her control will not give them a safe Landing.
She added that the briefing is important as it will send a warning signal to criminals to either stop their criminality or risk being arrested and to face the wrath of the law.
The Commissioner while thanking the public for their coperation, urged them to keep giving timely information to the Police with respect to any suspicious movement or activities in their area, to enable proactive police action in crime fighting.
She advised parents Guardians, husbands, wives and children to always know the sources of one another’s livelihood.
Agbeda also urged drivers, traders and well-meaning Nigerians to support the students’ struggle.
She further advised the youths of the State to venture into meaningful things.
During the parade ,one of the suspects Mr. Prosper Israel said he was dismissed from DSS in 2007 after his service at Government House Abia State ended in 2007.
According to the Ugwunagbo born robber, before he could return to his station, he was tried and summarily dismissed in absentia.
He said his younger brother along with his “colleagues” brought money are shared in his house and gave him part of it.
On whether he was aware that his brother was into robbery, he answered in affirmative.
He said he regrets his action, appealing for forgiveness.
The dreadful armed robbers that waylaid the Police escort, riddied demobilised their vehicle and the bullion van with bullets.
They also killed on the spot, Cash officer to the bank on escort, inflicted life threatening bullet wounds on three out of the police escort and made away with all the cash the Dullion van while only one of the dare-devil armed robbers was
Consequently, the investigation squad systematically commenced operation applying speed and accuracy and on different locations and days, arrested the following callous armed robbery gang:
The suspects includes : Adesoji Adeniyi aka ‘Soji” male from Ondo state, resident and arrested in Lagos state , Nnamdi Nwaosu aka ‘Prophet’ male from Rivers state, resident, and arrested in Imo state, Chinwendu Israel male from Abia state, resident and arrested in Abia State , Prosper Israel male, a dismissed DSS personnel from Abia state, resident and arrested in Abia state (a brother to S/No.3) ,Nwachukwu Albert aka White male (1* Armourer) from Delta state, resident and arrested in Lagos state.
Moshood Opeyemi aka Abiola male from Osun state resident and arrested in Rivers state. , 8. Matthew Christmas aka Aluwa Male from Delta state, resident and arrested in Delta state. 9. Azubuike Amaefula aka ZuLby ale from Atia state, resident and arrested in Rivers state. Finaily, 10. Monday Samuel aka MD mai (2™° Armourer) from Delta state, resident and arrested in Ondo state.
The Command recovered exhibits such as One General purpose Ma hine Gun (GPMG) with 53 rounds of live ammunition 2. Thirteen AK47 rifles with 1,749 live ammunition
- Two improvised explosive Anamites 4. One cut to si7e double ba rey r with 5 live cartridges, and Eighty four (84) AK47 magazines
- Mercedes Benz mini truck(used inkconceating their firearms)
- Cash of Ten million, one hundred and eighty four thousand naira (N10,184,000.00) only.
All the above mentioned suspects in their individual voluntary statements according to findings by newsstarlet have confessed belonging to a 14-man armed robbery gang with speciality operation attacks two months before the attack, the Bullion van had been under their surveillance.
