As reactions trails the June 12 set aside for the Celebration of Democracy day in Nigeria ,Sir Chikwe Udensi a security expert has stressed the need for the leadership of the Country to use the Democracy day as a day to address issues of lawlessness , insecurity , unemployment and other vices which have affected the image of the Country in the committee of Nations.
Udensi noted that there’s nothing to celebrate in Nigeria looking at the ills which have bedeviled the country in virtually every aspects with the basic laws binding on Democracy all been violated .
He maintained that the Democracy day set aside for June 12 in rememberance of Late Chief M.K.O Abiola who won the ever said to be freest and fairest Election in the history of the Nigeria should be a time for sober reflection and a time to ensure human rights and equity .
He recalled that it is not only Nigeria that celebrates Democracy as other countries of the world that practices Democracy also commemorates the day.
“It is not only Nigeria that celebrates Democracy, every country of the world that practices Democracy does as well”.
“What we should be talking about its sober reflection because the basic laws for the celebration of Democracy we have violated almost all of them.if you talk about the rule of law does it still exists in our climes today?”.
He added that Nigeria instead of celebrating should be morning for failure of government and security agencies in protecting human lives and properties citing examples of the constant kidnapping and ASUU strike for the past five months , keeping redundant education activities in a country like Nigeria -these he says have giving rooms to more crimes in the country .
The Interpol consultant described the issue of ASUU strike as unfortunate, saying that the Federal government is not worried because non of their Children attends Schools in Nigeria.
He added that Democracy does not exist with the way things have gone wrong, with the violation of some sacred places of Worship like Churches and killings ,saying that people of integrity are lacking in the affairs of the country.
He posited that the celebration should include employment of citizens, addressing the issues of poverty ,human rights and infrastructural development.
Udensi who faulted the justice system and the delegates roles in the party primary elections, believes that not much progress has been made in the electioneering process, expressing disappointment in the Democracy day speech of President Muhammadu Buhari which he says couldn’t address the current happenings in the country as those issues were not properly considered during his presentation.
He said that sanity in the electoral reforms is the way to go while acknowledging that President Buhari failed to sign the electoral act when it was first presented to him during his first tenure as his quick intervention would have properly positioned things by now in the country if he had earlier assented to it.
According to him the delegates elections across party lines was more of monetary than presenting programmes of development of the party to the people, he said that 80% of voters voted for where the money came from as money beclouded their sense of reasoning and that he said has prevented the emergence of the best candidates and need for justice in the electoral system.
Chikwe who said electoral reforms are necessary in Nigeria, called for laws with sizable consequences to be implemented in order to restore sanity and make them binding on the citizens.
“If we have laws that has sizable consequences then we’ll ensure that we have some level of sanity and decency in our electoral process.”
His impute on who governs Nigeria as President for 2023 was also felt, while he advocated for a Young Man who will bring value and change in the country.
He said religion does not matter as he reacts to the Muslim-Muslim ticket ,but maintained that a Tinubu ,based on the issues bordering on his age and health is not a good one now while adding that with a Peter Obi as a Christian or Former Emir of Kano ,Sanusi as a Muslim and all other technocrats ,Nigeria will be better governed as a country.
He says zoning should be about a person of capacity , maintaining that the country that is sinking and dying needs a Man with capacity .
Tinubu
“Tinubu is too old he’s very shaky he’s unstable and we don’t need that right now. We need a Young Man who has capacity who is very healthy to run a very sick society like Nigeria today,we don’t need a sick man to run a sick society.”
The country he added needs to stand up and look for the best man who can bring development.
