Army Rescues 21 Pregnant Girls From Illegal Baby Factory In Abia

Troops of 14 Brigade Ohafia on Sunday,4th June,2023 have uncovered the baby factory at Umunkpeyi Nvosi in Isiala-Ngwa LGA of Abia State and rescued 21 Pregnant Young Women out of 23 within the age bracket of 18 to 23 and 2 kids boy and girl of about 1 year old.

Intelligence report from the Army according to newsstarlet led to rescue as the owner of a baby factory was selling some of the babies to criminal agents for ritual purposes, and others for child trafficking.


The Baby factory belonged to a Woman identified as Nma Lillian Achumba,Charity and Social Mother ‘s Rehabilitation Center.
Nma Achumba according to a release from the Army Public relations officer,Lieutenant Omale Innocent was said to be on the run as she discovered that the Army had raided the area.


The illegal Baby factory was located at a building bearing government approved and registration number from the Ministry of Women Affairs.

Items found in the place include; a Tiger Generator, a stretcher, Gas cylinder, a bag of rice, 4 cartoon of tin tomatoes, 5 litres of Vegetable oil, 2 bags of Garri and soup ingredients.


Furthermore, the woman who operates the illegal Baby factory was also reported to be constituting nuisance in the area as sometimes human parts were seen around the building.


However, one Katherine Oyechi Ngwanma 34 years old, one of the chefs at the facility, was also arrested by the troops.

The pregnant women as well as the babies have been handed over to the Abia State Government for further actions.

The Okpuala Umunkpeyi Community head Jude Sochukwu Ori who lamented on the dangers posed by the illegal activities of Nma Achumba expressed excitement at Military’s intervention in the community.
Meanwhile,Abia State government has taken the rescued 23 girls and the 2 kids to a place where they can stay while the hunt for Nma Achumba continues and further investigation on how to locate the various parents of the girls.

The Special adviser on Media and publicity to the Abia State governor , Ferdinand Ekeoma thanked the military for their quick intervention as he assures of governments readiness to bring the owner of the Baby factory to face the full weight of the law.
Ekeoma noted that the said Woman, Lillian Achumba has been notorious with the operation of illegal Baby factory but maintained that the government under Dr Alex Otti will not tolerate any form of criminality in the State.
