The immediate past Governor of the State, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, has pledged an unflinching support to the PDP, urging members of the party to remain loyal and committed to ensure a return to power come 2027.
Dr Okezie Ikpeazu who reaffirmed his loyalty to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), despite the recent defection of some party members, emphasized that he would not abandon the Party, but instead, would work tirelessly to ensure the party comes back to its winning ways.
Addressing a gathering of PDP faithful in Abia South at his Umuobiakwa country home recently, the former Governor of Abia State, emphasized the need for dedication and unwavering support from party members during the challenging phase. He urged them to remain steadfast and not abandon the party in difficult times, assuring that he would continue to support the PDP, given its role in his political journey.
Speaking on the wave of defections following the party’s loss to the Labour Party in 2023, Ikpeazu encouraged PDP members in Obingwa to stay focused and undeterred by those leaving, stressing that the party needs committed individuals who are willing to stand by it through challenges, rather than those who would become distractions.
Acknowledging the party’s current struggles, he reassured members that better days lie ahead, and those who remain loyal will eventually reap the benefits when the tides turn in PDP’s favor.
Meanwhile, he lauded the new executive of the State Working Committee of the Party,led by Elder Abraham Amah, describing him as a man with good pedigree, capacity and character, expressing confidence that his leadership would return the party back to power and enjoined members to support the PDP leadership and avoid being used as tools of destruction.
He further called on party members to take individual responsibility for the party’s performance in the 2023 elections and to unite in rebuilding the party, acknowledging that some members may choose to leave, but emphasized the importance of loyalty and sacrifice from those who have benefited from the party in the past.
The State Chairman of the party, Elder Abraham Amah, in his speech, urged members to remain steadfast, assuring them that his leadership would reclaim the party’s lost mandate. He described their defeat in the 2023 gubernatorial election as a blessing in disguise, as it revealed those truly committed to the party.
Amah acknowledged that the party has learned valuable lessons from the last election and vowed to address past mistakes, particularly in the conduct of their Primary election. He pledged to conduct one of the most transparent primaries, ensuring the emergence of credible candidates.
He asserted that the PDP remains the party to beat, arguing that the current Labour Party administration in Abia has not been favorable to the people.
Despite the setback, Amah expressed satisfaction that the party remains strong in the six Local Government Areas of Abia South. He also praised stakeholders from Obingwa for their efforts in maintaining the party’s presence in the area.
In their separate remarks, the PDP Chairman for Ukwa West, Hon. Ben Nwaichi, and the former State Secretary of the party, Chief Ezenwa Nkire Abiri, commended the current party leadership, particularly for their dedication to restoring the PDP to power. They pledged their commitment to mobilizing greater support for the party in their respective localities.
In an interview, the Member representing Obingwa East State Constituency at the Abia House of Assembly, Hon Solomon Akpulonu and the Abia South Zonal Chairman of the PDP, Hon Enyinnaya Apollos affirmed that the party remains strong in Obingwa, assuring supporters of their determination to reclaim victory for the party.
