Yuletide:Be Vigilant,Abia CP, Urges Residents

Abians have been enjoined to remain vigilant and utilize the police emergency lines for distress calls and complaints.


The Commissioner of Police, CP Kenechukwu Onwuemelie psc, fwc, MNIM, fdc, made the disclosure while speaking to newsmen on the heels of Christmas celebration.


The Abia State Police Command he said has strategically deployed personnel throughout the state to safeguard the safety and well-being of its residents during and after the celebration.


He emphatically restates the ban on the sale or use of fireworks (knockouts) in the State, citing potential threats to public peace and security.


Emphasizing their capacity to cause distractions and create opportunities for criminal activities, including fire incidents, particularly during the harmattan season,the Commissioner advised parents and guardians to counsel their children/wards against the sale or use of firecrackers (knockouts) for the overall safety of the community.


Also briefing journalist,Abia State Police Command public relations officer,ASP Maureen Chinaka reeled out the Command’s significant achievements in curtailing incidents of armed robbery, kidnapping, vandalism of government property from the month of October, 2023 till date.


During the period, several suspects were arrested and various exhibits recovered.


Maureen said that some of the exhibits include firearms of different specifications, vehicles, railway sleepers, substances suspected to be illicit drugs amongst others.
Also, some kidnap victims and trafficked children were safely rescued.
A good number of cases were charged to various courts out of which, twelve were successfully prosecuted and convictions gained,she added.


Such cases includes rape, defilement, stealing, malicious damage, assault, threatening violence, house breaking and murder.


“As we are transiting through the month of December, heralding the end of the year 2023, I would like to highlight in summary the major achievements recorded by the Command:
•58 male suspects and 2 female suspects were successfully apprehended during various operations.
•Rescue of an abducted child
•Recovery of 6 locally made single barreled shotguns, 9 locally made double-barreled shotguns, 9 live cartridges and one pump-action gun.
•Recovery of 10 vehicles and 8 tricycles
•Recovery of 1 bags of substances suspected to be illicit hard drugs.
•Recovery of 12 stolen MTN batteries and 7 Airtel backup batteries.
•Recovery of 5 railway sleepers and vandalized aluminum panels.
•Recovery of armored cable, one dry cell motor battery, one motor Jack, Iron cutter and other assorted tools.
