Ochiagha Oparaukwu Ibeku,Prince Benjamin Benedict Apugo has stressed the need for the young people to study about their roots ,these he said will help to preserve the culture of the people and prevent it from going extinction.
Apugo was speaking at the ceremony marking the 2023 Ibeku New Yam Festival at EGWU IBEKU,the ancestral land where he performed all the necessary traditional rites to usher in the New Yam celebration.
Ibeku New Yam Festival was celebrated on the 28th of August,2023 amidst excitement , masquerade and all forms of cultural display.
Ochiagha Oparaukwu Ibeku Prince Benjamin Benedict Apugo, expressed fulfilment at the turn out and the values which Ibeku people has given to the year 2023 New Yam Festival.
He added that the 2023 Yam Festival was celebrated in a very colourful way as he stated that he derives much joy in carrying out the activities of the Ibeku tradition which he inherited for posterity to appreciate.
He urged parents to always uphold the Culture and traditions of Igboland by making sure they inculcate it in their children.
The people from Uran in Akwa Ibom State were also represented in the New Yam Festival .
These people also were said to have migrated from Ibeku.
The deputy village head in a community in Akwa Ibom State ,Ubong Ebiye Ekpa while speaking at the occasion,described Ibeku as part of Akwa Ibom State, having migrated from there many years ago.
