The Abia State Deputy Governor, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu has commended the Executive and members of the Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE), Umuahia Branch for their efforts and contributions towards property and structural advancement of the State.
Emetu who received them in his office at the government house, Umuahia during a familiarization visit assured them of collaboration in the infrastructural development of the State to enable quality assessment and evaluation of projects.
He thanked them for their unalloyed support to the administration of Dr. Alex Otti, Governor of Abia State and promised to make case for the society to the Governor on the issue of re-establishment of engineering centre in the capital city.
In her address, the Chairman of Nigeria Society of Engineers ( Umuahia Branch, Engr. Mrs. Ifeanyi-Madu Angela reiterated that “Engineers are solution providers and are trained to propel socio-economic development of any society if adequately carried along”.
She submitted their readiness and availability to partner with the State Government in achieving her mission and vision for a greater Abia State.
She enumerated the Branch’s contributions to the State to include; property condition assessment report of Nnamdi Azikiwe Secretariat Building, Umuahia; preliminary assessment report on 100 bed ward isolation treatment centre, Abia State Specialist Hospital and Diagnostic Centre Amachara Annex as well as the design of Abia poultry cluster phase 2, Okoko Item.
The team leader called for collaboration and partnership with the State Government in the proper engineering development of the State infrastructure, re-establishment of Engineering Centre in Umuahia, involvement of Engineers in the urban renewal process and planning of Aba and Umuahia among others.
She thereafter thanked His Excellency, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti (OFR), for his sensitivity to best practice and putting round pegs in round holes evident in his choice of Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu (FNSE) as his Deputy, and other cabinet members to head core professional Ministries.
