The chances of member Representing Bende Federal Constituency, Hon Benjamin Kalu as part of the presiding officers in the 10th Assembly is becoming clearer by the day as Four top strong contenders for the position of Deputy Speaker of the Federal House Of Representatives stepped down for him.
Some of the members in the race includes:Prof Julius Illovere who is the chairman committee of basic education,Rev Waive Francis ,the deputy chairman power ,Princess Ononuga , chairman women affairs and Rep. Abiola Makinde, the Deputy chairman federal character commission.
In their separate speeches,they pledged their loyalty to party and beyond,while maintaining that Benjamin kalu deserves the position as such requires competence which he had often demonstrated at the Green Chamber.
They further stated that Kalu has the qualities and is worthy of such having withstood the fury of the thousand storms of Labour Party in Abia State .
“He has done the job of the spokesman well and therefore knows the needs of the house and the strengths of the house.”
“He will be great in helping pilot the affairs further for the institution.”
Benjamin Kalu has been a former chairman of Bende local government , former two times member of executive council of Abia State , a former CEO of an international business organisation , a former principal partner of a law firm, schooled locally and overseas , a former team leader in Australia for UNHCR, the current Chairman House committee on Media and Public affairs and the performing spokesperson of the House of Representatives.
Kalu has about 43 bills to his name of which 2 has been accented to by Mr President and 22 motions with strong resolutions fully activated by the executive , is well rounded for the round hole of the deputy speakership position of the 10th assembly .
