The Ochiagha Ibekuland, Prince Benjamin Apugo has pointed out that Okonko Society remains one of the few existing Societies that is founded on truth, justice and peace.
Speaking in his residence in Umuahia, Abia State when he received in audience the Patron of Okonko Olokoro/Coordinating Patron, Abia State Okonko Society, His Imperial Majesty, Sir Mishak Nnanta, KJW, KSM, JP Gburugburu Ndigbo Dum and the executive of the Society, Prince Apugo, described Okonko Society as a well-respected tradition that has its advantage by upholding the ancient tradition which also stand against injustice and bind communities together.
He appreciated the Society for carefully selecting Nnanta who he tasked to always stand for/by the truth, as Okonko Society needs a person who promotes culture, just as Nnanta has been doing within the period under review.
Earlier in his speech, Sir Mishak Nnanta, who is also the President General of Igbo World Union, IWU described Prince Apugo as a worthy son of the Igboland, who has through his activities, promoted and is still promoting and defending the cause/course of the Igbo people.
Meanwhile, in appreciation of his outstanding and unflinching support for the unity of the Igbo people, the Ogurube IV of Ibeku clan and traditional ruler of Okwoyi-Isieke autonomous community, Eze Samuel Onuoha has bestowed on Sir Mishak Nnanta with ‘AKWA IBEKU’ award.
Speaking during the event in his ‘Ohabuike’ palace in Okwoyi-Isieke, Eze Onuoha charged Nnanta to refrain from acts the Society abhors and strive to promote justice and transparency in all his dealings.
He appreciates his efforts geared towards ensuring that the Igbos are given their pride of place in Nigeria and encouraged him to keep up with the good works.
