The Governorship Candidate of Labour Party,Dr.Alex Otti has been declared the winner of the March 18th 2023 governorship election in Abia State.
Alex Otti according to the INEC Returning Officer,Prof.Nnena Oti,the Vice Chancellor Federal University of Technology Owerri who made the declaration ,scored 175467 to emerge the winner , beaten his closest rival Okey Ahiwe of the
People’s Democratic Party with 88529 and returned elected having satisfied the requirements of the law.
The Returning Officer,Nnenna Oti before the declaration also reinterated her commitment as the electoral umpire in pursuit of good governance and to ensure the will of the people stands unapologetically on the principles of equity and fairness.
The position of INEC on the case of Obingwa is already in the public view,she said.
Otti’s victory marks the end of an era- a 24-year reign of the People’s Democratic Party since the return of Democracy in 1999.
This is also coming on the heels of several attempts by Dr Alex Otti to become the governor of Abia State, notably in 2015 and 2019 election respectively.
The Labour Party Candidate was adjuged the winner of the 2015 election where INEC under the returning officer,Prof Ozurumba declared Ikpeazu,the outgoing governor Winner.
