In line with the constitution of the Country,the Abia State House of Assembly is supposed to seat for 180 days in a year and that the Former Speaker Engr Chinedum Orji didn’t do ,hence his impeachment by the Members of the Abia State House of Assembly over abuse of office,poor welfare of members and embezzlement.
The disclosure was made by the Deputy Speaker Rt.Hon Ifeanyi Uchendu who said that Chinedum Orji while as a Speaker has become an Emperor and held the House to ransom.
Issues relating to abuse of office,embezzlement of funds and poor welfare of House members informed the decision of the House of Assembly members to Impeach him,he said.
“Today we just did our job it was very simple.” the majority of the House decided to remove the Speaker over misconduct and abuse of office.”
“We are Sixteen in number that signed for his removal and we were Twelve members present.”
“We impeached,so he’s no longer the Speaker of Abia House of Assembly.”
Rt.Hon Ifeanyi Uchendu who is also the Chairman of the House on Media and publicity ,added that the former Speaker for long has been acting in isolation and not allowing fellow House members the opportunity to make contributions.
Payments of entitlements of House members were said to be held by the Former Speaker whose tyranical disposition they said became overbearing before they resorted to the steps taking to impeachment for the House to move forward after several attempts to call him to order.
Ifeanyi Uchendu further stated that the Speaker is only interested in usurping the funds of the House while leaving their activities redundant .
The Deputy Speaker also stated that the impeachment process against the Former Speaker followed a due process and was constitutional as the Law stipulates government premises be used for such action.
Newsstarlet also gathered that the Abia State House of Assembly has elected the Member Representing Umuahia East State Constituency,Rt. Hon.Chukwudi Apugo the new Speaker.
