Keke operators in Umuahia, this morning took to a peaceful protest over the Abia State Govt’s Directive to convert daily tickets to monthly.
According to the Operators, the government instructed for them to be buying their daily tickets at once for a full month.Instead of buying a ticket per day, they were asked to buy tickets for the whole days in the month.
This they objected going by the recent economic hardship that is biting on everyone, asking why the government will be so insensitive to the plight of its citizens.
They argued that instead of the government to eradicate ticketing entirely,it is imposing a one month buying of ticket at a go.
Speaking with our reporter, a rider said he had already paid #9150 for the month, lamenting that the government should reconsider it’s decision to accommodate the masses.
Another rider who spoke on anonymity said the directive is exploitative as there are days they won’t come out for hustling and buying tickets for days they won’t operate,amounts to wickedness on the part of the government.
“We can’t be wasting money on days we will not operate. They should make it a daily affair,so that one can pay for the days he will be available.
