Proposed Abia Airport Plan Hits The Rock With Continuous Women’s Agitation

The Nsulu Community Women in Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area of Abia State on Monday December 9th 2024 ,urged the government of Abia State to adhere to the needs of the Community instead of imposing an Airport project which is not important to them at the moment.

The Women in the 9 villages which comprises Umuala Nsulu,Ikputu,Umuosu,Umuezeukwu,Umuomainta ,Umuode ,Umuala and Umuodecha reaffirmed their stand on the rejection of the project.

According to reports the Women stormed the Woman development Hall in total rejection of the Airport plan by the Abia State government, saying that it was not ideal as they are Agrarian people whose sole livelihood depends on farming adding that government wants to tamper with their only land with plans to build an unrealistic project.

A Woman of Nsulu during the agitation was captured in a video objecting to the negotiation plan saying that other important needs like schools and Nsulu Games Village abandoned needs to be addressed while wondering why the Chief of Staff to the governor ,Caleb Ajagba who is a Son of the Soil would be part of the plan to impoverish the community by his involvement to convince them to accept the government’s offer forcefully.

A man identified as Ikenwoko Chinedu Nwaogwugwu urged the government to go back to the former site where the Airport was formerly approved instead of encroaching and acquiring more of the lands meant for farming which the community is sustained through Agriculture.

He further added that the community now feels threatened with the approach of the government to deprive them their only source of livelihood with the deceitful Airport proposal.

Placards were displayed by the Women who asked Abia State government to leave their farmlands for them to find food to eat as the proposed Airport plan is not their major needs at this time of economic hardship in the Country.
Reports said that the Townhall meeting with Chief of Staff to the Governor,Caleb Ajagba with villagers failed to hold.
