Neglect Of Moribund Industries In Abia Resulted In Job Losses, Poverty, Economic Stagnation And Social Unrest -Hon.Dennis Roland

On the need to make legislative inputs on important matters in Abia State, the member representing Isiala Ngwa South State Constituency cum the House Committee Chairman on Agriculture in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Dennis Rowland Chinwendu on Thursday,26th October,2023 moved a motion on the need for Abia State Government to revitalize moribund industries in Abia State.

Hon. Dennis stated that the major industries in Abia state which include the Aba textile Mill, Glass Industry Aba , Ogwe Golden Chicken, Enyimba Hotel, Modern Ceramic Umuahia, among others have been lying in comatose over the years.

He informed the Honorable Members that the collapse of these industries over the years have resulted to job losses, poverty, economic stagnation and social unrest in Abia state.

He also made it known that all the efforts of the past governments in the state over the years to revive these industries have yielded little or no result;
the revitalization of these moribund industries have the potential to create new job opportunities, as well as stimulate economic growth of abia state and it has become paramount for the present administration led by Dr Alex Otti (OFR) whose policy is anchored on building a new Abia to revive the moribound industries for the economic and social benefit of Abia citizens.

Hon. Dennis prayed that the Honorable house to resolve as follows:

That the house should urge the state government to as a matter of economic importance, intervene as well as provide all the necessary support that will lead to the revival of the moribound industries in the state.

That the house should urge the state government to constitute a committee that will conduct a comprehensive survey in order to identify the moribound industries across the state with a view to unraveling the cause of their collapse as well as proffering solutions that will lead to the revitalization of the industries.

After deliberations and contributions from the Speaker Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa, Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Austin Nmeregini and Hon. Member Representing Isiala Ngwa North State Constituency, Hon. Ugochukwu Collins Iheonunekwu (Ochake) spoke in favour of the motion, they stated that the revitalization of these industries will help in economic, physical and social growth of the state.

The house as a matter of urgency directed the House Committee on Trade and Investment to go for over site function at the moribound industries and report back to the house in the next 14 days.
