Lack of Welfare, Reason For Corruption In The Judiciary – Udensi

Interpol Consultant and Security Expert Sir Chikwe Udensi has blamed the corruption experienced in the Nigerian judicial system to lack of welfare of the judges as these have created room for fraud, leading to outright corruption in the organ of government.

Chikwe Udensi who was reacting to the issues of the recent incident of the resignation of the Chief Justice of Nigeria , Justice Tanko Muhammad while speaking on his regular Radio programme in Abia State, monitored by newsstarlet said the past 18 months have been more of complains against the former chief Justice of Nigeria Tanko Muhammad basically on the issues of maladministration by several human rights organization.

Chikwe said the prevailing corruption identified in the judiciary gives concern on the way forward in the country, adding that poor renumeration and conditions of service has been a thing of worry.

He called for liveable wage for those who do sensitive jobs like the Judiciary, saying that it is also obtainable around the World as Three Hundred Thousand naira salary paid to them every month is unfair and unjustifiable and can create room for corruption for the chief Judge which makes it difficult for him to be held accountable.

“Let us have a sizable income ,let us not talk about minimum wage,we should be talking about liveable wage, this is what is happening around the World this is what the world negotiate with .”
“Around the World, income is adjusted to suit prices if prices are going up.”
“If you don’t pay a wage that is reasonable for which the Chief Judge can be held accountable where he misbehaves, then the question lies with who’s the culprit, is it the employer or the employee ?”.

The Security expert added that lack of welfare of the judges in Nigeria has created room for fraud, leading to outright corruption in the judiciary.

He says some of the monies meant for the judges did not get to them while arguing why President ,governors ,senate and a whole lot of senior legislative staff are earning very low salaries but are entitled to other benefits.

As he wondered why the judges will not be paid immidiately and when they’re going out huge amount will be given to them for parting , he urged the Federal government to ensure outright payment of their renumeration and salaries which suits the office that they occupy.
