Abia State Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development,Sir Nwaobilor Ananaba has frowned at the body in charge of Nigeria Premier Football League over unfair treatment of Abia Warriors saying the Club management has kept the pitch up to standard before the ban.
The Commissioner who recounted loses that have been incured since the ban urged the NPFL Management to quickly reverse the ban on Abia Warriors Football Club of Umuahia which , adding that it has prevented them from playing their home matches with fans at Umuahia Township Stadium.
Anaba who was speaking to Newsstarlet shortly after inspecting the pitch in company of Abia Warriors Chairman,John Obuh maintained that the ban is not justified looking at the level of work put together to maintain the grasses on the pitch and keeping it to a standard.
“I don’t think the ban is justified as you can see the pitch is not the worst pitch ever in the world”.
“Since we’re banned it’s difficult for them to play at home”.
“We lost our home support and going to Aba and stay in a Hotel is extra cost so we are doing our best to revoke the ban as you can see the pitch is looking fantastic”.
“We’ve been doing work since the ban and we’re ready for them to come back and revoke the ban” .
He said the pitch is not the worst of the pitches playing in the Nigerian league, adding that governor Alex Otti,the governor of Abia State is doing everything to ensure Abia Warriors returns to their base in order to connect with the fans and never repeats itself again..
“His Excellency,Dr Alex Chioma Otti has been working with us,the Chairman of Abia Warriors,John Obuh to ensure we revoke the ban and make sure something like this doesn’t happen again.”
Reacting to the ongoing governors Cup,the Commissioner says a lot of Talents have been spotted out of the competition as he assures they will be harnessed for both local and international exports.
He added that Abia State government under Dr.Alex Otti has gone back to the grassroots to bring the best Athletes who will represent the State at the National and International level while expressing excitement that sports which was once neglected in Abia could once again return to its glory days.
Also speaking the Director of Sport ,Abia State Sports,Comrade Obioma George thanked governor Alex Otti for reawakening the spirit of dedication amongst Abians who availed themselves the opportunity to participate in the ongoing Governors Cup, adding that it will go a long to repositioning sports in Abia State
